On the night of Wednesday to Thursday, President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to the memory of his predecessor Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, who died Wednesday, greeting a head of state whose "seven-year term transformed France".
"The directions he had given to France still guide our steps. Servant of the State, politician of progress and freedom, his death is a mourning for the French nation", adds Emmanuel Macron in a long message of condolence communicated by the Elysee.
