According to TASS, the minister made a corresponding statement before his departure to Russia.

“Where there is a need for clarification, it is best to speak openly. Therefore, today, for the first time since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, I am going to Russia, ”he said.

It is noted that during his one-day visit, Maas will visit Moscow and St. Petersburg.

"German-Russian relations are too important to let them take their course," he stressed.

The German Foreign Minister also added that without the participation of Russia, it is impossible to achieve a settlement of conflicts in Ukraine, Libya and Syria.

Earlier it was reported that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas will hold a meeting on August 11.

In July, Maas explained why "Europe needs Russia."
