A firefighter in his fifties died this Friday evening of a heart attack during an intervention for a fire in nature in Loire-Atlantique, announced the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service.

The man, head of the Saint-Lyphard fire department, died in Saint-Nazaire hospital.

"It is with immense sadness that SDIS 44 announces the death in service of the head of the Saint-Lyphard center during an intervention for a field fire", indicated on Twitter the Sdis de Loire-Atlantique.

On Friday, north of Saint-Nazaire, a car caught fire and a fire spread around it, in a small wood, which was quickly extinguished by the firefighters who arrived on the spot, the prefecture of Saint-Nazaire told AFP. Loire Atlantique.

But, "during the intervention, the head of the center of the firefighters of Saint-Lyphard, aged about 50, became unwell" and died in the hospital of Saint-Nazaire, specified the prefecture of Loire-Atlantique.

Last summer, the Loire-Atlantique firefighters were bereaved by the death of a 60-year-old volunteer firefighter during training with a team of water rescuers from Sdis in Pornic.
