The world's largest electric car manufacturer Tesla is feeling the effects of the corona lockdown in China.

According to its own statements, the US company delivered almost 18 percent fewer vehicles from April to June than in the first quarter.

Tesla handed over 254,695 cars to customers, up from 310,048 in the previous three-month period.

This ended a nearly two-year series of quarters with record deliveries.

Analysts had originally expected 295,078 vehicles to be delivered.

However, due to the lockdown in the Chinese economic metropolis of Shanghai, some experts lowered their forecast to around 250,000 cars.

Tesla had to stop production there for weeks.

The so-called Gigafactory in Shanghai is Tesla's largest factory.

The plant not only serves the Chinese market, but also exports many vehicles to Europe and Japan.

In the reporting quarter, Tesla produced 258,580 vehicles.

Production this June was the highest in the company's history, Tesla further informed me.

The company intends to present the balance sheet for the period from April to June to the public on July 20th.

At the end of June, Tesla announced that it wanted to cut thousands of production jobs out of concern about a slowdown in global economic development.

It is about ten percent of wage earners, which corresponds to 3.5 percent of the total workforce.

At the end of 2021, the US group employed around 100,000 people worldwide, so there would be more than 3,000 people affected.

recall in Germany

As the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) published on its website, Tesla now has to fix a software error in 59,129 Model 3 and Y vehicles worldwide that is causing the e-call system to fail.

A software update from the manufacturer applies as a remedy.

Cars built in 2022 are affected. The Federal Motor Transport Authority can only order a recall in Germany.

The German authorities had found a fault in the emergency call system of the cars.

In the event of a serious accident, an automatic call should be made to 911 in the United States or equivalent in other countries.

Tesla has had to initiate a number of recalls in the United States in recent months.

Most of them were related to software problems that can be fixed via updates.

So there were errors when defrosting the windshield.

There was a risk of the warning signal failing when driving without a seat belt, and the software was also unreliable when braking.
