Indicators of the Covid-19 epidemic are improving.

Resuscitations are down with 4,653 serious cases, or 122 less since the last tally and now has 32,345 hospitalizations, or 497 less than Wednesday evening, according to figures revealed Thursday evening during the weekly update on the epidemic situation.

"It is not because it is falling that it is low," said Olivier Véran, Minister of Health.

Worldwide, more than 56 million cases have been officially detected since the start of the pandemic.

Decreasing resuscitations and hospitalizations

France now has 47,127 deaths from the coronavirus, or 429 more over the last 24 hours, according to data presented Thursday by Jérôme Salomon.

Resuscitations are down with 4,653 serious cases, or 122 less since the last score.

Another notable drop is that of hospitalizations.

There are now 32,345, 497 less than Wednesday evening. 

According to the latest figures, 2,086,288 people have been infected in France since the start of the pandemic.

This represents 21,150 additional cases of contamination in the past 24 hours, against nearly 43,000 last Thursday.

"The indicators are improving, the epidemic dynamic has reduced (...). But the health pressure remains extremely high in our country and our hospitals are still under a very heavy burden in terms of patients", insisted the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran. 

Towards a reduction in measures rather than deconfinement? 

Despite these clearings, France is still "far from deconfinement", government spokesman Gabriel Attal warned on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Jean Castex meets the leaders of parties and political groups this Friday afternoon, then organizes a meeting with the social partners next week, before a speech by Emmanuel Macron in the run-up to December 1.

Amazon France ready to postpone Black Friday

A meeting scheduled for Bercy on Friday should make it possible to decide on the postponement of Black Friday to December 4, a hypothesis to which distributors and Amazon France say they are in favor, provided that this delay makes it possible to reopen shops earlier.

"We have decided to postpone the date of 'Black Friday' if this allows businesses and physical stores to reopen before December 1," said on TF1 the general manager of Amazon France, Frédéric Duval.

On Wednesday, the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, called for this shift, without pressure.

Elected officials and trade federations pleaded for a reopening of their stores from November 27, the initial date of the promotion day imported from the United States. 

Restrictions in the United States

While the United States recorded over 24 hours between Wednesday and Thursday 2,239 deaths linked to Covid-19, according to the benchmark count from Johns Hopkins University, public museums and the zoo in the American capital Washington will close their doors from Monday announced the institution that manages these establishments.

US President-elect Joe Biden said Thursday that he would not impose "national lockdown" despite the upsurge in the Covid-19 pandemic.

The arrival of vaccines becomes clearer 

The first vaccines against Covid-19 could begin to be marketed before the end of the year in Europe and the United States.

The director of the German laboratory BioNTech, which collaborates with the American Pfizer on a vaccine against Covid-19, estimated Thursday "possible" its authorization and its distribution during the month of December, both in the United States and in the Union European.

"We are working very hard," Ugur Sahin told AFP.

US Secretary of Health Alex Azar has confirmed that he is waiting for an emergency authorization request on Friday from the US Medicines Agency.

"We expect Moderna to make this request soon as well," he added of this American company, also in the ranks to develop and widely distribute a vaccine against Covid-19. 

The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced for her part that the European regulator could give the green light to the marketing of the two vaccines "from the second half of December, if the procedures go smoothly".

56 million cases worldwide

A total of 56,234,440 cases, including 1,350,275 deaths, have been officially detected around the world since the start of the pandemic, according to a report established Thursday by AFP.

After the United States which has 252,419 dead, the most affected countries are Brazil (168,061), India (131,578), Mexico (100,104), and the United Kingdom (53,274).

Russia has passed the two million case mark and recorded 34,850 deaths, two new records for daily infections and deaths, while the number of cases in India is now over nine million, the second highest national total in the world after that of the United States.

In the Asian country, the coronavirus has infected more than 9,004,000 people and killed 132,162, according to official figures but they could be underestimated due to a relatively low number of tests. 

The situation in Mexico is also critical.

The country of 129 million people now has 100,104 deaths for 1,019,543 confirmed cases since the pandemic hit Mexico at the end of February, said José Luis Alomia, director general of epidemiology at the Ministry of Health.
