The Professional Football League (LFP) and Canal + announced Friday that they have reached an agreement on the payment of TV rights for matches already broadcast in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, estimated at 43 million euros.

Four presidents appointed to negotiate
Due to the cessation of competition caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the encrypted channel had warned the LFP in late March of its intention to not honor its next payment of TV rights, amounting to about 110 million euros.

The LFP Bureau then appointed four club presidents, including Nasser Al-Khelaïfi (Paris Saint-Germain), to negotiate with the historic broadcaster of the Championship and obtain payment for the matches already delivered which was included in the payment.
Canal + inflection?
On April 1, on Europe 1, the boss of Canal + Maxime Saada refused to hear about the payment of part or all of the bill of 110 million euros. While the matches have been stopped since the 28th day, disputed in early March, the Professional Football League required the encrypted channel 6.5% of the annual bill of 558 million euros, or 35 million euros excluding tax. "Legally, the calculation is wrong and not relevant," replied Maxime Saada at the time. "This calculation is not in the contract." Almost three weeks later, Canal + changed its position.
