China News Service, Hong Kong, May 8 (Reporter Zhang Xiaoxi) Li Jiachao received 1,416 support votes in the election of the sixth chief executive of the Hong Kong SAR on the 8th and was elected as the sixth chief executive of the Hong Kong SAR.

On May 8, the election of the sixth chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region was successfully completed, and Li Jiachao was elected as the sixth chief executive candidate with a high vote of 1,416.

  From 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. that day, nearly 1,500 members of the Election Committee came to the main polling station at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center to vote on candidates by secret ballot.

  Annex 1 of the Hong Kong Basic Law stipulates that the Chief Executive shall be elected by an Election Committee with broad representation, conforming to the actual situation of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and reflecting the overall interests of society, and appointed by the Central People's Government.

Under the new electoral system, the electoral committee has a quorum of 1,500 people, and candidates must obtain more than 750 votes in order to be elected.

  At about 12:20, the election officer for the election of the sixth chief executive of the Hong Kong SAR announced that the candidate Mr. Li Jiachao received 1,416 votes in support, and Li Jiachao was elected as the candidate for the sixth chief executive of the Hong Kong SAR.

  The entire election process was conducted under the supervision of the Hong Kong SAR Election Commission, the Independent Commission Against Corruption, candidates' scrutiny agents, the public and the media.

  In the warm applause, Li Jiachao stood on the announcement platform of the Central Counting Station and bowed deeply to the members of the Election Committee and representatives of Hong Kong citizens who were present.

He delivered his election speech on the spot, and sincerely thanked every electoral committee who participated in the voting and the Hong Kong citizens in front of the TV, and thanked everyone for their support and encouragement.

  Li Jiachao was born in a grass-roots family in Hong Kong in December 1957, and in June 2021 became the Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

He joined the Hong Kong Police Force in 1977 and has served in various police departments. He was promoted to Deputy Commissioner of Police in September 2010, and was appointed Deputy Secretary for Security in September 2012. From July 2017 to 2021 During June, he was appointed Secretary of Security.

On April 9, 2022, Li Jiachao announced his participation in the election of the sixth chief executive of the Hong Kong SAR.

  The term of office of the sixth Chief Executive of the HKSAR is from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2027.
