The new Batwomen in the eponymous TV series The CW will be played by dark-skinned actress Javisia Leslie. Like her predecessor, Ruby Rose, Leslie belongs to the LGBT community.

“I am very proud to be the first black woman to play the iconic role of Batumen. As a bisexual woman, I am pleased to take part in this progressive television series that has always paved the way for the LGBTQ + community, ”Leslie quoted Deadline as saying.

Previously, the actress starred in the TV series “God freaked me out” and “Family Business”. She also starred in the melodrama Eternal Bridesmaid.

Ruby Rose in her Instagram supported the appointment of a colleague.

“Amazing! I am very glad that the role of Batumen will be performed by a dark-skinned beauty. I want to congratulate Javisia Leslie on the fact that Batwomen’s cloak went to her. You have to work with amazing actors and a film crew, ”the actress wrote.

“Batumen” is the first game series about superheroes with a non-traditional sexual orientation character in the center of the story. Even before the filming began, Ruby Rose had to remind disgruntled fans that she was entitled to the role, as she made a cuming out at 12 years old.

In May, it became known that Rose was leaving the Warner Bros. project. Television and Berlanti Productions. By that time, the second season of the show was already announced.

“I made a very difficult decision not to return to the Batumen series next season ... This decision was not at all easy for me, because I have immense respect for the actors, the film crew and everyone involved in creating the series in both Vancouver and Los Angeles, ”Rose said. Both the actress and the producers of the series decided not to disclose the specific reasons for her departure.

During the filming of the first season, Ruby Rose was seriously injured when she independently performed tricks. The actress needed an urgent spinal surgery. However, according to media reports, the decision to leave the project is not related to this incident.

With the departure of Rose, the producers of the series already had an idea of what the candidate for the main role should be.

“In the coming months, together with the talented creative team of the series, we will share the details of the filming of the new season: in particular, we will talk about the new leading role belonging to the LGBTQ community,” said Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions in a joint statement.

Javisia Leslie will act as Batwomen, however her character is not Kate Kane. The new character is called Ryan Wilder, and she is significantly different from Kane. In the past, she had drug problems and conflicts with the police. In addition, Wilder, unlike Kane, is not surrounded by loving.

The new main character is described as a skilled, but undisciplined fighter. She is both a sentimental girl and a merciless killer. According to the creators of the series, the image of Wilder does not fit into stereotypical ideas about American superheroes.

The fact that the series will replace not only the actress, but also the character, it became known in June. This practice in general does not contradict the canons of narration in DC comics. The image of a superhero is a kind of symbol, behind which at different times different personalities may be hiding, pursuing similar goals.

At the moment, however, it is unclear how the storylines will be built around Kane's family relationships. The main antagonist of the series Alice was the Batwomen twin. According to the show runner of the series Caroline Dries, together with their father’s adopted daughter Mary, the heroines formed a triangle of sisters.

The release of the second season of the series is scheduled for January 2021.
