Asked about the burkini during a press conference, Marine Le Pen clarified that it was a question of presenting "a bill to ban it in swimming pools".

"We will take the initiative in this case," she said.

The Grenoble city council gave the green light on Monday to the wearing of the burkini in the city's municipal swimming pools, after a tight vote on this divisive question, at the heart of a lively national controversy for weeks.

During the presidential campaign, Mrs. Le Pen had already proposed a law to prohibit "signs or outfits constituting in themselves an unequivocal and ostentatious affirmation of" Islamist ideologies, which she intends to banish from all spheres of society. .
