For his part, the Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic in Dubai Police, Colonel Juma bin Suwaidan, said that the campaign will last for 45 days, and mainly targets drivers of these bikes, vehicles and pedestrians, to avoid being run over.
He added that the most prominent violations of driving an electric scooter, according to Dubai Police monitoring, are the cyclist or passenger's failure to wear the required jacket and helmet, walking in the opposite direction, loading passengers on it without being equipped with the equipment designated for this, and using it without obtaining a driving permit from the authority. Roads and transportation, using it in the precincts of the road designated for vehicles, stopping it in places other than those designated for that, or on a road that poses a danger to road users, or pulling it while driving with a vehicle, or using it to transport objects.
He pointed out that two deaths were recorded during the past year, and 19 people were injured in electric bike accidents, and two deaths were recorded this year, and 10 injuries, pointing out that the majority of accidents were collisions with vehicles.
For his part, the Deputy Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, Brigadier Salem Abdullah bin Buraq Al Dhaheri, said that electric bikes are no longer a means of entertainment, in light of the demand of thousands at the state level to use them for transportation, so we encourage them, especially as they are a clean and environmentally friendly way. However, there are wrong practices that are being addressed, such as the use of scooters to transport items, to the point of filming people carrying gas cylinders on it, as well as transporting more than one person, or driving them among vehicles in the right-of-way.
He stressed that the UAE is a civilized country, with a strong legislative structure that everyone must abide by, and it cannot be allowed to transfer wrong practices related to the use of the "scooter" in a way that poses a danger to others, so police leaders under the umbrella of the Ministry of Interior are keen to educate and educate members of society, to protect them. .

He explained that the permit to drive electric bicycles is mandatory for those who do not have a license to drive vehicles or motorcycles, and it is issued smoothly within an hour and a half only, via the authority’s website, noting that the permit applicant gets simple awareness of the basic rules for dealing with an electric bike, and how to read the language of Road, dealing with pedestrians.
He pointed out that the authority has designated 162 km long tracks as safe areas for driving scooters and dyed them red, and reduced their speeds to 30 km per hour to protect their drivers. Police authorities can deal with their drivers, while requiring drivers' permits for personal users.
