In Australia, the National Rugby League (NRL) is essential in the sports landscape. The rugby league championship, currently stopped due to coronavirus, fascinates the crowds. Outside the lawns, players sometimes slip. The latest examples date back to last weekend, when three of them went camping with friends, in full confinement. Videos of the trio riding a motocross or firing a rifle were broadcast on social networks.
The NRL fined Latrell Mitchell (South Sydney Rabbitohs) and Josh Addo-Carr (Melbourne Storm) 50,000 Australian dollars each (29,900 euros), including 30,000 suspended. Tyronne Roberts-Davis (Newcastle Knights) was ordered to pay 10,000 Australian dollars (6,000 euros) including 6,000 suspended. In the event of a repeat offense, they could be suspended for at least one match. For the NRL, the players showed a “blatant disregard of the rules of public health” and tarnished the reputation of the championship.
