Lebanon receives proposals from the US mediator to demarcate the maritime border with Israel

On Monday, Lebanon received a written offer from the American mediator, Amos Hochstein, regarding the demarcation of the maritime border with Israel, according to what the Presidencies of the Republic and the Government announced, in a step that follows the recent assertion of Lebanese officials that the negotiations are in their final stages.

And the Presidency of the Republic stated on its Twitter account that President Michel Aoun "received the US ambassador to Lebanon, Dorothy Shea, and received from her a written message" from Hochstein about "the proposals related to the demarcation of the southern maritime border."

According to the presidency, Aoun called Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati, "and consulted with them regarding the American mediator's presentation and how to follow up to give a Lebanese response as soon as possible."

In response to a question about the content of the letter, a source in the presidency told AFP that it "contains a proposal with suggestions" without revealing what it is.

"The Lebanese response will be made as soon as possible in preparation for moving to the next step," he said.

Subsequently, the prime minister announced that Mikati received Shea, who handed him the "written offer" from Hochstein regarding the demarcation of the border.
