The German volleyball players missed their third win at the World Championships in the Netherlands and Poland and are now only taking one point into the intermediate round.
In the last group game on Saturday, the selection of the German Volleyball Association lost 2:3 (25:12, 26:24, 23:25, 18:25, 9:15) despite a 2:0 set lead against Canada.
The best points collectors against the opponents who also qualified for the second round were Lina Alsmeier and Hanna Orthmann with 16 points each.
The team of national coach Vital Heynen had previously lost 3-0 to Olympic champions USA and defending champions Serbia.
Thanks to their successes at the start of the World Cup against Bulgaria (3:1) and Kazakhstan (3:0), the DVV team had already reached the next round before the Canada duel.
Mistakes creep in
The three defeats in a row are anything but an encouragement.
The second group stage will be played in two groups of eight from October 4th to 9th.
The top four in each group advance to the quarterfinals.
The German volleyball players have not yet been able to win a medal at a world championship.
The Germans started the game with a solid team performance, in the first half, the best of the tournament so far, Hanna Orthmann did well in defense and attack.
But then, as in the previous games, too many assumption errors crept in on the part of the DVV team.
But since the Canadians couldn't get their high error rate under control, the Germans turned the set in their favor.
The Heynen protégés also left a lot behind in the third section and even had to give it up.
That was the sticking point of the game, because now the Germans completely lost the thread and the important counters.
