Lübeck (dpa / lno) - The CDU politician Klaus Puschaddel is Lübeck's new city president.
The citizens of the Hanseatic city elected the 72-year-olds on Thursday evening with a large majority as their chairman, as the city announced.
Puschaddel prevailed against the SPD candidate Sabine Haltern with 32 votes.
Puschaddel was previously deputy mayor, he has been a member of the citizenry since 1990 and was chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the council for 14 years.
The new election had become necessary because the previous mayor Gabriele Schopenhauer (SPD) resigned from the honorary office for personal reasons in mid-November.
