The Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan Bagdat Musin announced this on his Facebook page.

"Good news!

The UN International Union of Electrocommunications has announced a new + 997 code for Kazakhstan, ”he wrote.

Musin noted that after the collapse of the USSR, the code +7 was assigned to both Russia and Kazakhstan.

“Since last year, we have been working with telecommunications companies to achieve a unique international code for Kazakhstan.

As a result of these negotiations, our country received an independent code +997.

Relevant documents are being prepared, measures are being taken to switch to the new code, ”he said.

As noted by Tengrinews.kz, Kazakhstan should switch to a new national code from January 2023.

At the same time, from the moment of assignment, the new and old codes can be used in parallel for two years.

The full transition is expected from 2025.

Earlier it was reported that Kazakhstan will introduce mandatory dubbing of films into Kazakh.
