The American musician of American rock Justin Townes Earle , a reference to the Nashville (USA) scene and son of country-rock legend Steve Earle , has died at the age of 38.

"With tremendous sadness we inform you of the death of our son, husband, father and friend Justin, " his close ones wrote today on the musician's social networks.

"Many of you have trusted his music and lyrics over the years and we hope that his music continues to guide you on your travels. We will miss you very much, Justin," they added.

The farewell text of his family and friends ended with some verses from the song "Looking for a Place to Land": " I have crossed oceans , I have fought against freezing rain and flying sand, I have crossed borders and roads and rivers in amazement just looking for a place to land. "

For now , the cause of the death of Justin Townes Earle, who for years had problems with drug addiction , has not been released .

FROM FATHER TO SON

The artist was born in 1982 in Nashville (USA), one of the cradles of American popular music and the city around which his life and career orbited.

His middle name, Townes, was given by Steve Earle and Carol Ann Hunter in homage to the iconic musician Townes Van Zandt, who was a friend of his father.

Having as a father an artist of the stature of Steve Earle (although he was very absent during his childhood), Justin Townes Earle very early directed his steps towards music and, specifically, towards the sounds of North American roots, from rock to country passing through folk and bluegrass .

Justin Townes Earle participated as a teenager in two Nashville bands: The Distributors and The Swindlers.

Later he was part of The Dukes, his father's backing band .

The family bonding on stage did not go quite well, as he was fired from the training due to his serious drug problems .

On several occasions he spoke in public about how, at 21 years old, he had already survived five overdoses that nearly ended his life.

He entered rehab and, by the time he launched his solo career, claimed that he had already turned away from drugs.

The EP "Yuma" (2007) was his letter of introduction just before he released the following year his long-format premiere, "The Good Life" (2008).

In sound and lyrical coordinates very similar to those of his father and that referred to the tradition of US singer-songwriters , Justin Townes Earle was a very prolific musician with eight albums released in little more than a decade.

"Harlem River Blues" (2010) or the diptych formed by "Single Mothers" (2014) and "Absent Fathers" (2015) are some of the key records of a career that found its epilogue in the album released last year "The Saint of Lost Causes "(2019).

Artists of all stripes reacted sadly to the death of Justin Townes Earle today.

"Looks like Justin Townes Earle is dead. I hope it's a hoax but I'm afraid it's not. What a loss ..." writer Stephen King said on Twitter .

"I send love and condolences to Steve Earle and the entire Justin Townes Earle family ... He was always nice to me and has left too soon," noted singer-songwriter Margo Price .
