In Jordan, the murder of a student, on Thursday June 23, in one of the universities of Amman created a wave of protests on social networks.

Since his death, hundreds of messages have been pouring into Twitter in support of him.

But they also denounce a broader problem: that of the sexual and gender-based violence that persists in the Middle East.

Here are some examples of the protest messages posted on Twitter since Thursday evening.

The murder of 21-year-old nursing student Iman Rashid sent shockwaves through social media.

Hundreds of Internet users denounce a sexist crime, and bring it closer to that of Nayera Ashraf, another student stabbed to death this week in front of her university in Egypt, after having declined the marriage proposal of her murderer.

Censorship by the authorities

These events add to several weeks of denunciation of sexual and gender-based violence in the Hashemite Kingdom.

A movement that began in early June at the University of Jordan, after several students denounced on social networks the harassment of one of their professors.

For one of the first times in the country, the latter was immediately suspended.

Internet users are now demanding justice for the death of Iman Rashid and new regulations on sexual and gender-based violence.

From the first challenges Thursday evening, the authorities however censored the case.

No more local media is authorized to publish on the subject.
