The dispute between Neil Young and Spotify, which Joni Mitchell is now embarking on, began earlier this week.

Young then wrote an open letter to Spotify demanding that his music be downloaded from the platform, unless the company instead removed a podcast in which pod profile Joe Rogan questioned the benefits of mass vaccination against covid-19.

"I do this because Spotify is spreading false information about vaccines and potentially causing deaths among those who believe in the misinformation being spread," Young wrote in the letter.

Spotify eventually chose to remove the singer's music, prompting users to call for a boycott of the platform.

Supported by Mitchell

On Friday, the quarrel took a new turn after Joni Mitchell joined Neil Young's boycott.

"I have decided to remove all my music from Spotify.

Irresponsible people spread lies that cost people their lives.

I stand in solidarity with Neil Young and the global world of researchers and doctors in this matter ", the artist writes on his website.

The announcement ended with a link to an open letter in which a long line of researchers and healthcare professionals demand that Spotify act against Rogan.

Joni Mitchell broke through in the 60's and is behind hits like "Big Yellow Taxi" and "Both Sides, Now".

She was awarded the Polar Prize in 1996, and in total her catalog has generated hundreds of millions of streams on Spotify.

”Beklagar beslutet”
