Jean-Francois Garreaud, deceased on July 9, 2020 at the age of 74, here on the set of the series “Sous le soleil” - PAGES / TF1 / SIPA

He was one of those faces, not to say "mouths", that the viewer got used to seeing and seeing again on the small screen:  Under the sun, La Crim ', Plus belle la vie or even recently Nina . The actor Jean-François Garreaud died Thursday at the age of 74 at his home in Saint-Jory-de-Chalais, confirmed the mayor of the city, Bernard Vauriac, at France Bleu Périgord.

If the public knows him especially for his many recurring roles or simple participations in TV series, he has also had a career in cinema and theater.

A regular in French series

Born April 1, 1946 in Montmorency, in the Val d'Oise, Jean-François Garreaud was first a tiler then an accountant, before discovering a passion for comedy in the late 1960s. His first notable role was in Violette Nozière by Claude Chabrol in 1978, followed by Une histoire simple by Claude Sautet and I… come Icare by Henri Verneuil. We even find him alongside Alain Delon in his film Le Battant .

If he continued to play for the cinema and the theater, it is on television that he becomes essential, from Fabien le Drôme in 1983 to L'Affaire Vuillemin in 2006, through famous roles like Commander Michel Lemarchand in La Crim ' or the bad guy Léonard Vassago in Plus belle la vie . He was also the father of Nina , in the eponymous medical series of France 2.
