The first foreign ministers' meeting between Japan, the United States and South Korea was held after the inauguration of the Biden administration in the United States. We have confirmed that we will work closely together.

Foreign Minister Mogi, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and South Korean Foreign Minister Chung Wei-young held a meeting between Japan, the United States, and South Korea in London, England, where the G7 = seven major foreign ministers' meetings are held. It was held for about an hour after 4 pm on the 5th of Japan time.



This is the first time that foreign ministers have met with the three countries since the inauguration of the Biden administration.



In this session, opinions were intensively exchanged over the response to North Korea, and at the beginning, Secretary of State Antony Blinken explained in detail the contents of the US policy toward North Korea, which had been reviewed earlier.



Regarding this, Minister Mogi said that the US government will continue to aim for the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula in reviewing the policy, and will strengthen efforts to ensure the security of allies, and that the US is in close contact with both Japan and South Korea. He supported and welcomed the efforts being made with an emphasis on cooperation.



Minister Motegi also sought understanding and cooperation in resolving the abduction issue, and Secretary of State Blinken and Foreign Minister Chung expressed their support.



On that basis, the three agreed to call on North Korea to comply with its obligations under the UN Security Council resolution toward the complete denuclearization of North Korea. In advancing, we confirmed that Japan, the United States, and South Korea will work closely together.
