Idstein (dpa) - The outdoor specialist Jack Wolfskin has a new boss.

Richard Collier (47) will replace Melody Harris-Jensbach on December 1, announced the company in Idstein.

The British manager should be responsible for the further internationalization and strategic brand positioning of Jack Wolfskin.

Collier comes from Helly Hansen, a Norwegian manufacturer of ski, sailing and work clothing, where he was most recently product manager.

Harris-Jensbach, who has been at the helm of Jack Wolfskin since 2014, will continue to support the company in an advisory capacity, it said.

After the takeover of Jack Wolfskin by the US golf outfitter Callaway in January 2019, the Americans initially relied on Harris-Jensbach.

Under her leadership, Jack Wolfskin was to sell outdoor jackets, hiking shoes and backpacks on the large US market, where the Hessians had hardly been represented until now.

The company from Taunus had therefore founded a North American headquarters in Park City in the state of Utah.

The expansion to Japan was also on Harris-Jensbach's to-do list.

However, in June it was confirmed that Callaway Golf is looking for new leadership for Jack Wolfskin.

After the integration into the Callaway group has been completed, this step is now being taken, the Americans say.

Jack Wolfskin has suffered from competition in the outdoor market in recent years and has seen several changes of ownership.

In the USA, Jack Wolfskin wanted to score points with its European image and the English name, but faces strong competitors such as The North Face, Patagonia and Columbia.

Jack Wolfskin employs more than 1100 people worldwide and operates 730 stores.

Callaway had bought the medium-sized company for around 418 million euros.

In the first year under the new owner, however, little changed in sales.
