Italy begins monkeypox vaccination campaign
On Monday, Italy began a campaign to vaccinate against monkeypox, with the number of infections increasing, and the Ministry of Health reported that Italy had recorded 545 cases of monkeypox.
Its vaccination campaign began after more than a month of similar steps for countries that recorded higher numbers of infections, including the United States, Britain and Spain.
Spallanzani Hospital in Rome said in a statement that it would provide the first doses of the vaccination.
Spalanzani Hospital said it will start vaccinating 200 people from Monday, in addition to receiving 600 reservation requests.
The hospital stated that the vaccine used is Genius, an anti-smallpox vaccine produced by the Bavarian Nordic Company and approved by the European Medicines Agency for immunization against monkeypox.
On Thursday, vaccination operations will also begin in Milan, the financial capital of Italy.
