This is a modification, "on an exceptional basis", specifies the EPCR, in charge of the European Rugby Cups.

The Champions Cup will no longer bring together 20 but 24 teams, divided into two pools of 12 during the 2020-2021 season.

So there will be eight Top 14 teams (down from six so far), eight from the English Premiership and eight Scottish, Welsh and Irish Pro 14. The EPCR has tried to juggle the constraints due to the coronavirus.

Seventh in the championship before its interruption in March due to Covid-19, Stade Toulousain is therefore qualified, like Montpellier (eighth), along with the Top 6 at the time of the “freeze”: Bordeaux-Bègles, Lyon, Racing 92, Toulon , La Rochelle and Clermont.

"The tournament will be played over eight weekends, including four days of group matches and an elimination phase consisting of quarter-finals round-trip, semi-finals and then the final in Marseille on May 22, 2021", details the EPCR .

The clubs are divided into hats and teams from the same league and the same hat cannot compete.

Each team will play four games, two at home and two away.

The 2019-2020 season is not over

The teams which finish from fifth to eighth place in each pool will be transferred to the European Challenge, from the round of 16.

The future European season will start on the weekend of December 11, 12 and 13.

But we must first end the 2019-2020 fiscal year, with quarter-finals on September 18, 19 and 20.
