July 30, 2021 In June, compared to the previous month, there was an increase in the number of employees and a decrease in both the unemployed and inactive. The growth in employment (+ 0.7%, equal to +166 thousand units) is observed for men, women, employees, the self-employed and for all age groups. The employment rate rises to 57.9% (+0.5 points). 



This was announced by Istat, reporting that the growth trend that began in February 2021 is strengthening, with an increase in the five months of

over 400,000 employees

self-employed workers

, who lose 44,000 units, despite the recovery of 39,000 units in the last month.



Compared to February 2020, the month prior to the start of the pandemic, the number of employees is still

lower, the inactivity rate remains one percentage point higher. In the annual comparison, the number of employees is 1.2% higher than that of June 2020 (+ 267 thousand units). Comparing the second quarter of this year with the previous one, the level of employment is higher by 1.0%, with an increase of 223 thousand units.



The growth affects men and women, employees and workers of all age groups with the exception of 35-49 year-olds, while the employment rate - up 1.1 percentage points - rises for all age groups.



In June, the decrease in the number of people looking for work (-5.1% compared to May, equal to -131 thousand units) concerns both gender components and all age groups. The

unemployment rate falls to 9.7%

(-0.5 points) and returns, after five months, to below the 10% threshold; among young people it stood at 29.4% (-1.3 points). 



The month of June shows, on a monthly basis,

similar dynamics for women and men

both with respect to the employment rate, which grows by 0.5 points between the former and by 0.4 points among the latter, and with respect to the unemployment rate, which decreases by 0.3 and 0.7 points respectively; inactivity, on the other hand, increases among males (+0.2 points) and decreases among females (-0.4 points). On an annual basis, the trend in rates is in agreement for employment, up 0.9 points for men and 1.3 points for women, and for inactivity, which falls by 0.9 points respectively. and 1.7 points; the unemployment rate, stable for males, grew by 0.4 points among females.
