The Iraqi Paralympic champion, Jarrah Nassar (31 years old), winner of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Sports Creativity, said that without "hope" he would not have achieved success in his sports career, saying that his participation in the Fazza Championships for People of Determination had the great credit for his brilliance and achievement of a medal. Silver at the Tokyo Paralympic Games last summer, and it contributed greatly to winning the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Sports Creativity.
Nassar told "Emirates Today": "Participation in the tournaments held in the Emirates, especially the Fazza Championships, has greatly improved my technical and mental level, along with the Asian and World Championships, despite the difficult conditions we suffer from in Iraq, as we lack adequate training places. And with better equipment, as for me, I have to train in my father’s simple house, when I am in Iraq.”
The Iraqi hero, Jarrah Nassar, was honored by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, during the award ceremony held at “Expo 2020 Dubai” on the ninth of this month, and said that it was an event he would not forget throughout his life.
He said that he had known the global value of the award several years ago, which raised his ambition to win one of its categories.
He stressed that he has embarked on a strong sports career through continuous training and participation in tournaments, despite his lack of the simplest conditions for sports training.
He added, "The UAE, for me, is a springboard for stardom, as it supports all talented people, including people of determination, to achieve their aspirations."
He said, "The athletes of determination in Iraq are in dire need of opening a specialized academy to sponsor them and help them in their sporting journey. He called on Iraqi clubs to play their role in discovering the talented among them and developing their skills to achieve global and Olympic achievements that honor Iraq."
It is noteworthy that Jarrah Nassar won a gold medal in the Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games 2016 in shot put, then won a silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games, in addition to winning many international and continental medals.
