Iranian Foreign Minister: Iran's Economic Interests Must Be Guaranteed in Resuming Implementation Negotiations
Xinhua News Agency, Tehran, July 1 (Reporter Gao Wencheng) Iranian Foreign Minister Abdullahyan said on the 1st that the success of the resumption of negotiations on the implementation of the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue depends on the United States taking a realistic approach and Iran's assurance of economic interests.
Abdullahyan said on social media on the 1st that if the United States takes a realistic approach and Iran receives lasting assurances that it can obtain full economic benefits, the negotiations will be fruitful.
Iranian negotiators will continue to negotiate rationally and actively for the lifting of sanctions against Iran.
According to the Iranian President’s website, Iranian President Rahi said in a phone call with Qatar’s Emir (head of state) Tamim on June 30 that Iran believes that unilateral sanctions are cruel, illegal and unjust, and is determined to defend its rights .
"All efforts should be aimed at lifting sanctions and providing the necessary assurances in this regard."
In July 2015, Iran reached a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue with the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany.
Under the agreement, Iran pledged to limit its nuclear program and the international community lifted sanctions on Iran.
In May 2018, the United States unilaterally withdrew from the agreement, and subsequently restarted and added a series of sanctions against Iran.
Since May 2019, Iran has gradually suspended the implementation of some of the terms of the agreement, but promised that the measures taken are "reversible".
The parties involved in the Iran nuclear deal will start negotiations in Vienna, the capital of Austria, in April 2021 to discuss the resumption of compliance between the United States and Iran, and the United States indirectly participates in the negotiations.
The eighth round of negotiations was launched in Vienna on December 27, 2021.
On March 11 this year, Borrell, the EU's high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, announced that negotiations were suspended due to "external factors".
On June 28-29, under the coordination of the European Union, Iran and the United States held two days of indirect negotiations in the Qatari capital Doha.
