The Association of Southeast Asian Nations kicked off a summit on Tuesday without a Burmese representative, after the head of Myanmar's ruling military junta was fired for failing to abide by a peace deal, so that international pressure intensifies on the military regime.
The American president will participate by videoconference at this summit.
This is the first time in four years that Washington has had discussions at the highest level with this regional bloc, seen as essential in its strategy in the face of China's growing power.
