The regional daily New Republic had published caricatures of Mohamet last Sunday, in tribute to Samuel Paty.

After receiving threats on social networks, the newspaper decided to file a complaint, according to information from Europe 1.

EUROPE INFO 1

Sunday, October 18, the regional daily press newspaper,

the New Republic

, made its front page with a caricature of Charlie Hebdo, in homage to Samuel Paty, the beheaded professor in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine.

In reaction to the publication of this front page, the newspaper's local Châteauroux agency received, among many messages of support, several insulting and threatening messages on social networks.

Messages like "watch out for backfire", or "we will have warned you".

A complaint was therefore filed immediately.

An investigation was opened by the Châteauroux prosecutor's office, entrusted to the Limoges judicial police.

Proud of the newspaper in my region.

"We remain cautious, we are immune to anything"

Christophe Hérigault, editor-in-chief of the

Nouvelle République,

wanted to publish this front page spontaneously, "both in homage to Samuel Paty, but also as a cry from the heart to say stop."

"If we are no longer there, we journalists, to denounce things, we no longer serve much. In addition, we are a newspaper from the Resistance," he recalls.

"We were not frightened, neither in the choice to publish the front page, nor the editorial in the newspaper: Samuel Paty was never afraid him. But we remain cautious, we are immune to anything . "

The newspaper is studying the filing of a second complaint, this time concerning messages received at the agency of

the New Republic

of Deux-Sèvres.
