The Minister of Economy, Finance and Relaunch of France has announced that he will "score the accounts" with companies, which have benefited from high inflation, at the end of the year.
"The burden of inflation must be shared between the public authorities and the companies benefiting from the peak of inflation", he insisted.
The government "will do the accounts" with the large companies which have benefited from high inflation to verify that they have used part of their profits to relieve the purchasing power of households, assured Thursday the Minister of the Economy Bruno The mayor.
"We have asked for efforts from a number of large companies which today benefit from this inflationary peak. (...) We will do the accounts at the end of the year and we will see what the large companies have put on the table to protect our compatriots against inflation", declared Mr. Le Maire during a press point devoted to the results of the French presidency of the Council of the European Union on economic and financial issues.

"The burden of inflation must be shared between the public authorities and the companies benefiting from the peak of inflation. This principle is not negotiable", he insisted.
The Minister of the Economy had notably launched an appeal to TotalEnergies to extend, and even amplify, the discount of 10 cents per liter of fuel that he had put in place, alongside that of 18 cents per liter granted by the government.
The oil giant TotalEnergies announced on Wednesday that it would increase its discount to 12 cents per liter for motorists refueling this summer at one of its approximately 120 service stations on the highway.
The government is also in discussions with the shipowner CMA CGM, whose profits have benefited from the very dynamic recovery in world trade after the Covid-19 pandemic.
