The Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, 3rd player in the world, was released on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells by the Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili (36th in the world) in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.

Tsitsipas, last Roland-Garros finalist and seeded No. 2 in the tournament, had already suffered in the previous round before winning in three sets and 2:43 hours of play against Australian Alex de Minaur (27th) 6-7 , 7-6, 6-2.

Basilashvili, winner of the Munich tournament this year and finalist in Doha after having notably taken out the Swiss Roger Federer (9th) in the quarter-finals, qualifies for his first semi-finals in the Californian desert.

On Saturday he will face the winner of the match between the German Alexander Zverev (4th) and the American Taylor Fritz (39th).
