The context has been decidedly tense since last month in Albertville (Savoie), where the mayor of the city is firmly opposed to the construction of a private Muslim school.

At the heart of this controversy that has become national, after the court decision forcing the elected official to accept the building permit, the Turkish mosque in Albertville has indeed just been affected by a fire on Monday evening.

No casualties are to be deplored but the fence of the building, a hedge and garbage cans were set on fire.

According to local officials of the Islamic Confederation Millî Görüs (CIMG), there is no doubt that the fire is of criminal origin.

"We noticed a person carried with gasoline set fire to the gate of our mosque," indicates the association on its Facebook page.

We have notified the police and an investigation will be carried out.

We hope that the culprit (s) will be found and tried as quickly as possible.

The CIMG plans to build a private Muslim school with 16 classes (six in kindergarten and 10 in primary), which could accommodate 400 students, right next to the mosque.
