In Rennes, line B of the metro still expected in April or May

• In Rennes, the construction of line B of the metro is coming to an end.

  Final tests are being carried out by Keolis and Siemens for delivery expected between the end of April and the end of May 2022.

• The delivery of line B should take place twenty years after the inauguration of line A.

We hadn't heard from the line B construction site for several weeks.

A silence that had the gift of worrying some residents of Rennes, visibly worried that the second metro line has not yet been delivered.

Announced for 2020 then for 2021, the inauguration will finally take place in 2022. The range envisaged in December by Nathalie Appéré was clear: line B would be open to residents between “end of April and end of May”.

The community ensures that "the commissioning of line B remains scheduled between the end of April and the end of May".

For several weeks, the famous "blank march" has started.

The trains are now operated by Keolis teams and no longer by Siemens.

But the German manufacturer's teams are still present in Rennes.

“Thousands of technical tests and adjustments have already been carried out.

The trains run every day to finalize the development of the rolling stock.

The dry run continues to gradually approach the level of reliability expected for commissioning,” explains the metropolis.

"You have to roll, roll and roll to get in and make sure everything is compliant," says Matthieu Theurier, vice-president in charge of mobility and transport.

This Thursday, a last big safety exercise is planned in the tunnel of line B with the simulation of a fire in a metro train between Gayeulles and Gros-Chêne stations.

It will then be up to the Technical Service for Ski Lifts and Guided Transport (STRMTG) to study the Rennes Métropole file and validate the commercial operation of line B. Started in 2013, the project has proved to be titanic and will have cost just over 1.3 billion euros.

The delivery of line B will therefore take place twenty years after the inauguration of its big sister, line A, which sees nearly 150,000 people pass through it every day.
