  • Guide The best plans you can enjoy in Madrid in May

One more year, the San Juan reservoir and, more specifically, the

Virgen de la Nueva beach

, has become 'Madrid's beach'.

A place full of possibilities that has just received the

blue flag

awarded by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC).

Located in the town of San Martín de Valdeiglesias,

this enclave has all the safety and hygiene guarantees

to enjoy it as a family.

The blue flag returns one more year to wave on the beach of Virgen de la Nueva.

Accessing the Virgen de la Nueva beach is easy.

Located 40 minutes by car from the capital (from the M40, you access the M-501 and, later, the M-957) you can park in a designated area.

Although, as is logical, on weekends it becomes

a very visited place and it is convenient to go with time

.

If this is not done, it is best to look for a hole in the vicinity of

the Virgen de la Nueva hermitage

, built in 1956 and which came to replace the 13th-century construction that was left under water after the creation of the San Juan reservoir.

Access to the sandy beach is perfectly signposted

and it becomes a freshwater paradise where children and adults alike can enjoy a day full of activities.

A good tip would be

to go with umbrellas to shelter from the heat

, despite the large presence of pine trees in the vicinity of the bathing area.

Activity in Leisure and Adventure.

Those who prefer something more than a dip should know that there are many

companies in the area specialized in multi-adventure activities

.

For example, the Ocio y Aventura

sports club

(646 013 617), where you can practice specialties such as wakeboarding, flyboarding or water skiing.

In addition, next to the beach they organize climbing and, a little further, horseback riding, hiking or archery.

In

Wakea

(643 080 448), this season presents a proposal that promises to be a knockout.

This is aquakarting, an activity that transfers the famous karts to the aquatic environment.

In addition, you can enjoy the crazy donut, banana fast, wake surfing or wake boarding.

And in

Yucalcari

(617 709 274) the star activities are kayaking, canoeing and paddle surfing.

To eat there are several options.

On the one hand,

La Ermita

(91 863 44 66), a restaurant specializing in rice dishes and paellas that has an extensive menu.

Among other proposals, in the kitchen of María Luisa they prepare twenty mixed dishes with very competitive prices as well as abundant portions.

Very close to this place we find the

Virgen de la Nueva Kiosk

(646 777 780), a space with unbeatable views of the beach whose star proposal is paella and in which, as in the previous case, it is advisable to book in advance.

Also nearby we find

Wakea Loung Bar

(643 080 448), a place where the most demanded products are hamburgers, grilled dishes, squid or anchovy portions, along with various fish.

For those who prefer to extend the day,

La Martuka

(696 86 93 45) is 7 kilometers away and opens until 2:30 in the morning every day of the week.

This restaurant and chill out offers a combination of food (with paellas, grilled meats or ham croquettes, among others) and drinks at sunset and nightfall.

In addition, it organizes multi-adventure activities.
