Dramatic afternoon in Les Sables d'Olonne, Vendée.
A man in his thirties was killed while swimming near the Grands Chevaux beach, on the rocky part of the coast, reports the Maritime Prefecture of the Atlantic.
The bather was not alone since a child accompanied him in the water.
Both found themselves in difficulty because of the swell.
The child managed to get back to the beach but the adult was lost to follow-up around 3:30 p.m.
Emergency mobilized, the emergency services deployed nautical means as well as a helicopter and managed to find the victim around 4:50 p.m., unconscious on the rocks.
She could not be saved.
This beach was prohibited for swimming because of the dangerousness of a significant surf, indicates the maritime prefecture.
It “reminds users to swim exclusively in restricted areas supervised by lifeguards”.
