A 67-year-old man was taken into police custody on Wednesday for murder and attempted murder, suspected of having killed his fifty-year-old daughter and injured her son-in-law, we learned from the Angoulême prosecutor's office.

At around 1 p.m., this man fired a shotgun at his daughter, killing her with a bullet in the head, while she was in his car near her home in Garat, a commune east of 'Angoulême, said prosecutor Stéphanie Aouine.

His companion, the son-in-law of the alleged assailant, was also shot in the chest.

Supported at the Angoulême hospital center, his days were no longer in danger Wednesday evening, added the prosecutor.

Already sentenced for violence and threats committed against his daughter

According to the first elements communicated by the prosecution, the alleged perpetrator of the shots would have waited "in ambush" for his daughter and her son-in-law on leaving their home.

Between three and five shots were reportedly heard.

One of them reached the bay window of a family of neighbors.

Two children residing in this house were shocked and taken into care at the Camille-Claudel hospital in La Couronne.

We do not yet know the motive for this crime, but the Angoulême prosecutor's office specifies that the 67-year-old man had already been sentenced twice for violence and threats committed against his daughter.

The alleged shooter was arrested by the gendarmes shortly after the facts at the wheel of his car near a pond in the neighboring department of Dordogne, where he intended to end his life.
