The emotion is still very strong in Caen (Calvados), a week after the suicide of Stefano Patry, a garbage collector of 46 years, dismissed for having consumed alcohol during his service. This Friday, his colleagues from Coved Normandie went on strike, reports BFMTV. Employees of the company, which specializes in collecting and treating waste, denounce their working conditions and the methods used for this dismissal, which they consider unworthy.

"They could have talked to him"

"It's hard for us to lose a colleague, it's very hard," said one of them at the microphone of BFMTV. "Before firing him, they might have been able to talk to him. This is not normal and we have to fight over this, ”denounces CGT union delegate Yannick Martin, who talks about“ very hard ”management.

On June 5, Stefano Patry, father, killed himself in his garage with a hunting rifle. The day before, he had received his letter of dismissal for serious misconduct after five years working for the company. His employer accused him of having consumed two beers during his working hours.

Beers offered by local residents

According to the news channel, these beers were offered by residents to thank Stefano Patry and his colleague for their commitment during the confinement period. For its part, management justifies its choice "to part with an employee who drives a heavy truck when intoxicated".

The case is now in the hands of justice. According to Ouest France , Stefano's family filed a complaint against the company for "manslaughter".
