He fears "violence and disturbances to public order".
The prefect of Maine-et-Loire Pierre Ory banned the demonstration which was to take place late Sunday afternoon in Angers.
"Any gathering of people on the public highway is prohibited this Sunday, February 6, 2022 from 4 p.m. to midnight within the perimeter of the city of Angers, whether in connection with this demonstration or in reaction to it", specifies the prefecture in a press release.
The meeting was given in front of the statue of Joan of Arc, in the Square du Mail, at the call of the Rally of right-wing students from Angers who intended to commemorate the bloody anti-parliamentary demonstration of February 6, 1934 in Paris, organized by nationalist leagues.
The Angevin Anti-Fascist Network had called on its supporters to gather in the same place and at the same time in order to denounce "the resurgence of the fascist threat to this city".
