Among them, 65 were co-opted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and 84 were co-opted by the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

According to the "Articles of the Chinese Academy of Sciences" and "The Implementation Rules for the Co-election of the Chinese Academy of Sciences", a total of 65 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences will be elected in 2021, including 5 female scientists.
Among the newly elected academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 12 are from the Department of Mathematics and Physics, 11 from the Department of Chemistry, 10 from the Department of Life Sciences and Medicine, 9 from the Department of Earth Sciences, 10 from the Department of Information Technology and Science, and 13 from the Department of Technology and Science.
The average age of newly elected academicians is 57.4 years old, the youngest age is 45 years old, the oldest age is 68 years old, and 76.9% are under 60 years old (inclusive).
The structure of the academician team has been further optimized, especially through the special recommendation review mechanism, five people were elected in the fields of national defense and national security, and three people in emerging and interdisciplinary fields were elected.

Among the newly elected academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, there are 11 from the Department of Mechanical and Transportation Engineering, 10 from the Department of Information and Electronic Engineering, 8 from the Department of Chemical, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, 9 from the Department of Energy and Mining Engineering, and 10 from the Department of Civil, Hydraulic and Construction Engineering. There are 8 people in the Department of Environmental and Textile Engineering, 10 in the Department of Agriculture, 11 in the Department of Medicine and Hygiene, and 7 in the Department of Engineering Management.
The average age of newly elected academicians is 58 years old, the youngest age is 51 years old, the oldest age is 69 years old, and 75% are under 60 years old (inclusive).
A group of outstanding engineering science and technology experts who have been fighting for major national projects, tackling core technologies, and sticking to the old industrial bases in the northeast and remote areas in the west have been elected for a long time.
In addition, in 2021, 25 foreign academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences were newly elected from 11 countries. For the first time, scientists from South Korea and Switzerland were elected foreign academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; 20 foreign academicians were newly elected to the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
After this co-election, the total number of academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is 860, and the total number of foreign academicians is 129; the total number of academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering is 971, and the total number of foreign academicians is 111.
