Can the most "stupid" cancer be prevented?

Because of the slow development period, which can last as long as 8-10 years, colorectal cancer is often referred to as the "stupid" cancer.

Yang Jin, deputy editor-in-chief of the People's Medical Publishing House, said that colorectal cancer is one of the few cancers that can be prevented, and it is also the cancer that has the most screening value and should be screened.

However, in China, early screening for colorectal cancer is not ideal.

According to a survey of the status of diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer patients in China in the short and medium term, 85% of patients do not understand the knowledge of early colorectal cancer screening, 97% of colorectal patients have not undergone colonoscopy screening, and 83% of newly diagnosed and diagnosed colorectal cancer patients Patients with cancer are already in the middle and advanced stages.

"Chinese people do not have physical examination or screening when they have no symptoms or feel unwell. The professional doctor team also has misunderstandings and do not know when and what technology to use for screening." Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, First Affiliated Hospital of Naval Military Medical University (Shanghai Changhai Hospital) said Li Zhaoshen, director of the Department of Gastroenterology.

Wang Xishan also emphasized the importance of early screening.

He said that the families of bowel cancer patients are also high-risk groups.

According to the "NCCN Colorectal Cancer Screening Guidelines" and "China Colorectal Cancer Screening and Early Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines (2020, Beijing)", the family members of colorectal cancer patients should be screened at the patient's age of onset 10 years earlier. Or start screening at 40.

During the kick-off meeting, Wang Xishan also announced for the first time a prospective, multi-center screening and verification study for family members of colorectal cancer (spouse and first-level family members).

The project is led by the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and is carried out in conjunction with 11 research centers across the country. It aims to provide a practical screening path for high-risk populations in clinical real scenarios to participate in early colorectal cancer screening.

The reporter learned at the meeting that the "Science Popularization in China" launched this time will build a colorectal cancer science popularization education base around public medical institutions, and provide timely and effective accurate science popularization for colorectal cancer patients, their families and related high-risk groups.

The project plans to establish 100 popular science bases covering all levels of hospitals in provinces, cities and counties nationwide by the end of 2022, train 300 popular science talents, and carry out 2000 popular science activities.
