Implementing the National Grain Strategy

CCTV News: On September 24, the National Rice Yield Test Expert Group conducted the acceptance test of Xinjing 8, a new high-quality, high-yield saline-tolerant rice variety in Xinjiang, with a yield of 659.3 kg per mu, setting a new high-quality, high-yield, saline-tolerant rice yield record in Xinjiang .

The new rice variety Xinjing 8 was jointly bred by Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Shenyang Agricultural University. It has the characteristics of salt-alkali tolerance, lodging resistance, high yield and stable yield.

At present, Xinjing No. 8 has been promoted to plant more than 4,000 mu in northern Xinjiang rice areas such as Urumqi and Yili River Valley.

According to statistics, Xinjiang has an area of 110,000 square kilometers of saline-alkali land, accounting for about one-third of the country's saline-alkali land area. The saline-alkali-tolerant rice technology can transform the saline-alkali land into land for common crop cultivation. The trial planting was successful. , Providing samples for the nationwide saline-alkali-tolerant rice planting, yield increase, and environmental improvement.

Zhang Xiufu, a member of the Rice Expert Steering Group of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, a researcher at the China Rice Research Institute: If the saline-alkali land is improved by growing rice, the strategy of "reserving grain in the ground and storing grain in technology" will be truly implemented, and it will also drive the country's progress in this regard.
