Munich (dpa) - The confidence among German exporters is great despite the tense Corona situation.

The export expectations of the industry, collected by the Ifo Institute, climbed to their highest level in a good ten years in March, as the researchers announced in Munich on Monday.

Compared to the previous month, the indicator, which is based on a survey, rose by 13 points to 24.9 points.

That is the highest value since January 2011. "The export economy is benefiting from a strong economy in Asia and the USA", commented Ifo President Clemens Fuest.

The euro area is also slowly gaining momentum.

Export expectations increased in almost all branches of industry.

The electrical industry and mechanical engineering are therefore hoping for a significant increase in orders from abroad.

The automotive sector also remains optimistic.

The furniture industry has turned the corner, and hope is growing again.

On the other hand, companies that manufactured clothing and shoes expected declining sales.
