A fire, visible for more than two kilometers around, broke out on Monday evening in the grounds of the Esplanade des Mosques in Jerusalem, the third holiest site of Islam where thousands of worshipers were present for prayer evening.

The cause of this fire was not immediately known.

Earlier in the day, clashes between Palestinian protesters and Israeli police left more than 300 injured at the Mosque Esplanade, named the Temple Mount by Jews, and rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel.
