Media reports stated that a series of huge explosions rocked a fireworks factory in Sakarya province, northwestern Turkey, on Friday, and that 10 people were taken to hospital after their injury.
The governor of the province, Cetin Oktay Calderim, was quoted by the official Turkish news agency, Anatolia, as saying that between 150 and 200 people were inside the complex in the Hindek region of Sakarya.
It was not clear what caused the explosions. CNN Turk broadcast footage of a huge column of smoke rising from the site of the explosion.
Anatolia said that many ambulances and fire engines rushed to the scene after the explosions heard over a distance of 50 km.
"There are between 150 to 200 people (on the site) according to information from the owner of the factory, but we cannot interfere because the explosions are continuing," Calderim said.
Anatolia reported that the interior, health and labor ministers had gone to Sakarya to follow up on the situation.
