More than 50 referee teams (one head referee plus two assistant referees) were shortlisted for the first round and received a one-year training and evaluation in 2019.

The final selection will be from the beginning of 2020 to the AFC Champions League group stage in 2022, including regular physical tests, theoretical tests, video case tests, English tests, etc.

According to Ma Ning, the actual referee performance is one of the key points. Special personnel will follow up and inspect the candidate referees and evaluate their whistleblower performance in each game.

In the end, a total of 36 referees, 69 assistant referees and 24 video assistant referees around the world became Qatar World Cup referees.

  The selected referees first need to be physically fit to officiate international competitions, so they must pass high-intensity speed and endurance tests.

  According to reports, the three Chinese referees will also participate in FIFA training courses in Asuncao, Madrid and Doha, analyze and evaluate video clips of the game, and train with the athletes.
