Hong Kong police arrest and charge former Cathay Pacific flight attendant for allegedly violating Prevention and Control of Disease Regulation
The Hong Kong SAR government police said on the 17th that after seeking legal advice, they decided to arrest and formally prosecute two former flight attendants of Hong Kong Cathay Pacific Airways for violating the Prevention and Control of Disease Regulation, Chapter 599A.
The two have been released on bail and the case will be heard in Hong Kong's Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts and the Eastern District Magistrates' Courts on February 9.
Police investigations show that the two flew to Hong Kong from the United States on December 24 and 25, 2021 respectively, while serving as cabin crew at the airline.
During the period of medical surveillance, they also conducted unnecessary activities on 25 and 27 December 2021, which were suspected of violating the Prevention and Control of Disease Regulation (Cap. 599A).
Both were later confirmed to be infected with the Omicron variant and have since completed treatment and left the hospital.
According to section 15(3) of the Prevention and Control of Disease Regulation, Chapter 599A, Laws of Hong Kong, any person who fails to comply with the conditions specified by the health officer to be complied with commits an offence and is liable on conviction to the second level of punishment, namely 5000 HKD and 6 months in jail.
