Human-to-human epidemics are difficult enough, but highly pathogenic AI, avian influenza, occurred in duck farms.

It was only 2 years and 8 months that it occurred on a non-wild bird farm, so the crisis warning has been elevated to the'serious' stage.

Reporter Lee Seong-hoon on the report.

killing process is in full swing on the farm where highly pathogenic AI has occurred.

Last (27th) night, a report of suspicion of highly pathogenic AI came in from this farm, and as a result of a close examination by the quarantine authorities, it was confirmed as H5N8 type highly pathogenic AI.

Although the same type of highly pathogenic AI antigen has been recently detected in wild bird feces, it has only occurred in poultry farms for 2 years and 8 months since March 2018.

When a chicken is infected with highly pathogenic AI, the mortality rate reaches 100%, and its spreading power is strong, so it spreads rapidly to the surrounding area.

The quarantine authorities raised the AI crisis alert from'Caution' to'Severe' and banned the movement of all poultry farms in Jeongeup for a week.

Jeollabuk-do killed all 392,000 chickens and ducks from 6 farms within a 3km radius, including 19,000 meat ducks raised by the farm.

[Mo In-pil/Professor, Department of Veterinary Medicine, Chungbuk National University: Since horizontal propagation between farms can be carried out more easily than that of wild birds entering the farm, it is urgent that all related farm households nationwide have to be investigated.] From

last month in earnest in winter. As migratory birds flew into Korea, 8 cases of highly pathogenic AI have been confirmed in wild bird feces so far.

The quarantine authorities said that there is a high possibility of further spread of highly pathogenic AI this winter, and asked for thorough quarantine at the farm level.
