Record heavy rain in Zhengzhou, the capital of central China's Henan province, killed 12 people and evacuated 100,000 residents, Xinhua News Agency reported.



Yesterday (20th) evening in Zhengzhou, water filled the subway and about 500 passengers were trapped. Rescue work was carried out, but 12 people were eventually found dead.



Zhengzhou City has suspended all subway lines.



In Zhengzhou, 201.9 millimeters of torrential rain fell in just one hour from 4 PM to 5 PM yesterday.



From 6 pm on the 18th to 00:00 on the 21st, the average accumulated precipitation reached 449 millimeters, and there were many areas with more than 500 millimeters of rain.



Local authorities have upgraded their flood preparedness level to Level 1.
