The former Dutch and international football star and former coach, Clarence Seedorf, announced his conversion to Islam, in a post on his official account on the “Instagram” website.

Seedorf - the former Ajax, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Milan player - wrote, "Special thanks for all the kind messages congratulating me on my conversion to Islam. I am very happy, and I am happy to join all the brothers and sisters around the world, especially my beloved Sofia (his wife), who taught me deeply the meaning of Islam ...I have not changed my name, and will continue to bear the name given to me by my father, Clarence Seedorf. I send my regards and my love to everyone in the world."

It seemed clear from Seedorf's post that his wife, Sophia Makramati, was behind this, as he announced his conversion to Islam, while he was in the Emirates, specifically at the Center for Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities.

It is noteworthy that Seedorf, 45, also coached the Italian teams AC Milan, Spain's Deportivo La Coruna, and the Cameroon national team.

The former Dutch international is one of the best midfielders in the history of the round witch, and won many titles when he was a player, most notably:

  • 4 titles in the Champions League

  • Two titles in the Dutch league

  • title in the league

  • Two Italian league titles

  • Two titles in the European Super

  • Club World Cup title
