According to a survey by the Regional Health Agency (ARS), which was able to consult France Bleu Pays de Savoie, Haute-Savoie is experiencing a significant shortage of nursing staff.

If the department has always known a deficit of medical professionals, the situation would have become particularly worrying.

There is currently a lack of 1,800 specialists in the health sector.

This shortage would affect all sectors.

Hospitals, reception centers for disabled people and nursing homes would encounter real difficulties in recruiting both doctors and nursing assistants.

Several reasons could explain this situation.

"75% of Swiss nurses are French"

One of them is the proximity to Switzerland and its more attractive salaries.

“75% of Swiss nurses are French and were trained in France,” explains the ARS in its survey.

90% of French nurses working in Switzerland reside in Haute-Savoie.

The health crisis has also led many professionals to change jobs.

The vaccination obligation refused by caregivers may also have contributed to the lack of available professionals.

In an attempt to reverse this increasingly worrying situation, many health professionals in the department have therefore asked the State to introduce a new salary policy.

They also called again for the establishment of a cost of living premium.
