Hamdan bin Mohammed: Our goal is for Dubai to be the best city in infrastructure

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai, stressed the importance of infrastructure projects as they represent basic pillars for sustainable economic development, noting the interest of the Dubai government in the continuous improvement of road infrastructure due to its role in raising the competitiveness of the emirate in addition to Its impact on creating an attractive commercial and investment environment and providing a high quality of life.

His Highness said: "Our goal is for Dubai to be the best city in infrastructure... and we are continuing the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, "may God protect him", to accelerate the implementation of its major projects within the vital sectors, the most important of which is the sector Roads and transportation for its impact as a main artery to support economic prosperity, stimulate sustainable growth, serve the community and ensure the comfort and happiness of its members within the framework of our comprehensive strategy to make Dubai the best place in the world to live, work and visit.”

This came during the inauguration of His Highness, the Crown Prince of Dubai, the project to develop the Dubai-Al-Ain Street, with a total cost of two billion dirhams, within the framework of the strategic transport plan in the Emirate of Dubai. Al Khor, which includes doubling the street’s capacity from 3 lanes to 6 lanes in each direction, and developing six main intersections. The total length of the bridges and their slopes reached 11,500 metres.

His Highness, the Crown Prince of Dubai, was received at the project site by Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority. It contributes to the smooth flow of traffic, and enhances the linking axes with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, and Emirates Street, in addition to serving current and future development projects on both sides of the Dubai-Al Ain Road.

 1.5 million beneficiaries..

The number of beneficiaries of the project is estimated at about 1.5 million people, who live in residential areas and urban complexes and workers in facilities and service facilities on both sides of the Dubai-Al-Ain Street. It also serves more than 25 universities and colleges and 27,500 students, and the project contributes to doubling the absorptive capacity 100% of the street, from 12,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, to 24,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, as well as reducing the journey time on the Dubai-Al-Ain road, which extends from its intersection with Ras Al Khor Street to its intersection with Emirates Road, by 50%, from 16 One to eight minutes during peak hours, in addition to solving the problem of congestion, which was up to two kilometers long.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also listened to an explanation of two projects underway to develop road infrastructure in Dubai, namely the Manama Street Development Project, which includes converting existing roundabouts into signal-controlled intersections, which will be completed next September, and the Al Manama Street Development Project. Developing the Academic City intersection on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, which is expected to be completed next December. In the future, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will be developed in the extended part of the Academic City, until its intersection with Al Awir Street.

Four bridges...

In his explanation, Al Tayer explained that the Dubai-Al-Ain road development project included the implementation of four bridges at the intersection of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road with Dubai-Al-Ain Street, with a length of 2,600 meters, with a capacity of two lanes, in order to ensure direct and free traffic in all directions. On the intersection, where the previous bridge on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road was developed to allow the expansion of Dubai - Al Ain Road from three lanes to six lanes in each direction, in addition to service roads on both sides of the street, indicating that the total capacity of the bridges on the intersection is about 36000 vehicles per hour in all directions, which contributes to the smooth flow of traffic coming from Al Qusais area on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards Al Ain.

 17 km..

The Dubai-Al-Ain road development project extends for a length of 17 kilometers, from the intersection of Dubai-Al-Ain Street with Emirates Road to the intersection of Ras Al Khor Street. Both sides of the street to raise the level of traffic safety, in addition to developing six main intersections, which are the intersection of Dubai-Al-Ain Street, with each of the Emirates streets, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Nad Al Sheba, Al Maidan and Ras Al Khor, in order to ensure the smooth flow of traffic. Traffic and service of residential communities, on both sides of the street, such as Academic City, Silicon Oasis, Dubailand Residential Complex, Liwan, Meydan and Dubai Design District. The total length of the bridges at the six intersections was 6600 meters, while the length of the bridge slopes was about 4900 meters.

 Six intersections..

The project to develop intersections on Dubai-Al-Ain Street included the construction of a bridge at the intersection of Emirates Road with Dubai-Al-Ain Street, and the construction of a bridge linking Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street (north and south), and intersecting with Dubai-Al-Ain Street, with a length 220 meters, with a capacity of four lanes in each direction, with the possibility of expanding to five lanes in the future, and developing the current bridge to serve the traffic coming from the Dubailand residential complex heading west to Dubai-Al Ain Street towards Dubai, and establishing a new bridge to serve the traffic coming from Dubai heading north to Academic City and Silicon Oasis, with a total length of 528 meters, with the construction of service roads on both sides of the street, and the construction of bypass links to serve the rest of the traffic and development projects.

The project also included the development of the Nad Al Sheba intersection, to serve the traffic movement from Dubai-Al Ain Street to the Nad Al Sheba area and back, in addition to improvements to the surface roads entering and leaving the Nad Al Sheba area, as well as developing the intersection of Al Maidan Street with Dubai-Al Ain Street and linking it with Al Manama Street. Through a bridge with a capacity of four lanes in each direction, to connect Al Maidan Street and Manama Street, in addition to developing the former bridge on Al Maidan and Dubai-Al Ain Streets to serve the development projects of Meydan.
